Grubb & Ellis Joins US DOE In Effort To Foster Energy Efficiency

Published: 22-Jul-2010

The US Department of Energy has chosen Grubb & Ellis to participate in the pilot program for the Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership designed to drive improvements in building efficiency through an international network of government agencies, national-level certification programs and other public/private sector organizations.

Grubb & Ellis is among the eight US corporations and the only commercial real estate services provider selected for the program.

Commercial buildings and industrial facilities account for nearly 60% of global energy use. DOE has designed the program to reduce building energy use, cut greenhouse gas emissions and pollution and create jobs through an internationally recognized certification program driving the development of policies, procedures and training programs to foster energy efficiency.

Under this program, Grubb & Ellis will implement an energy management system in selected buildings it manages, develop a baseline and target performance levels and measure and verify the energy use to prepare for deployment of energy efficiency measures over the coming years.

The other participants in the program include companies, 3M, Cleveland Clinic, The Dow Chemical Company, Marriott International, Nissan, Target and Wal-Mart Stores, and one university, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Thomas D'Arcy, president and CEO of Grubb & Ellis, said: "We're honored to take part in this important program and look forward to the measurable effects it will have on lessening the impact of commercial properties on the environment. Additionally, we believe our participation in this program will bring our clients long-term energy cost reductions and higher asset values."
